The delivery (turn 3 mission)

A simple delivery. In a Unity facility. Armed grunts. Heavy weapons. Possibly back-up of hundreds.
The trouble is, you can't go many places without a weapon. Just in case.
What are the likely to think if we turn up packing? Raid for weapons or supplies, I'd guess. They wouldn't wait to ask the questions. The lead, or lasers, would be flying in our direction before we could express our peaceful intentions.
Well, the crew was ready. I sent Hari & Brax to approach through the shanty town (the delayed deployment).
Cromwell, Wolf, Bott and I approached through the crazy forest. Not that it gave us a lot cover.
I had given Bott the package and the boosted leg. Figured he could survive a couple of hits better than any of us.
The view coming from the crazy forest.
The view from the Unity facility.
Two grunts on the roof, two ground patrol.
Cromwell ran to a clump of bushes ( the only one on first move).
It brought a shot, which sounded like it was from a marksmanship rifle, from a grunts on the roof. Luckily it missed. Damn! This made it a more dangerous mission than even I expected.
Coming out of the forest the 3 of us dashed towards the cover of some containers.
No sign of Hari & Brax.
Wolf & Bott (1st activation) moved in close behind the containers.
The marksman and his buddy on the roof, both shot at Cromwell. Missed.  The other sentries advanced towards our position. They were about the same distance from the drop point than Bott. I moved up & Cromwell took a shot at his tormentors. Looked like he missed.
Hari & Brax showed. My spirits were raised though they weren't in a position to affect anything yet.
The grunts kept firing at Cromwell who had hunkered down. They missed, but not by much.
Hari was still out of range so moved up, Brax also moved up (1st act) into a position where he could shoot at something. His target was a little obscured, but he hit. Whatever, the armour was enough to stop it. It gave them something to think about.
Wolf moved round the container, shot and missed. I did the same but didn't. One down. We were both exposed to return fire. Cromwell took a shot and missed
The grunts didn't bail as I had hoped they would.
Was te distraction of Har, Brax and losing one man enough of a distraction? It seemed not with grunt only yards from the drop point. Bott stayed in cover, waiting his chance.
Hari moved into range of the guys on the roof. Three shots, two hits. He went down. Great shooting!
I shot at the grunt. Missed. I could have, should have, ducked back. But I didn't want to leave Wolf exposed. He shot back and I was hit. My stim pack kicked in as I sank to the ground.
The grunt on the roof took a shot at Cromwell. Missed again! He shot back. Missed. At least keeping each other busy.
Wolf shot at the grunt. Hit. But this grunt seemed impervious to lead.
Bott made his move. Just a few yards more!
It was now the grunt on the roof decided to bail judging it too exposed, being out numbered and out gunned.
Bott moved up (1st act) delivered the package to the base of the column.
The lone grunt decided to withdraw. Thankfully.
Our mission accomplished, we scoured the field as quickly as we could.

Logs

Update on the crew log and World record sheet.
Paying for the medical training used up the gains from the recent job and a little more besides. But I think it was a good decision if it helps in the long term.
Upgrading Hari should have benefits in the long term. I should have looked at the XP overall and upgraded more crew members for various abilities. That is one to remember for after the next job.
Although the crew is surviving it is scraping around for creds. The meanness of the Patrons (low dice rolls for benefits) is a little irritating.
Although I haven't seen anything in the rules I've named the two wealthy patrons. I may name the corporations when it seems appropriate.
In the future, I would want to give bonuses to rolls for benefits where a patron has used the crew 3 or more times.
Below are the current crew log and world record sheet

Some painting

Just a quick update to show the progress on the previous post.

Last thing to work on are the bases.

Other than that, the off-world habs have now been glued to bases. Finishing those and I'm ready for the next mission.

Turn 2. Colony Square rumpus (aar/battle report)

We approached Colony Square as discreetly as we could. As much as 6 heavily armed people could approach discreetly. The place looked in lock-down. Even the Med. Centre looked closed.

Colony Square, now just district 2, is one of the oldest parts of Ebaracum. It still has the off-world habs that were constructed in the second phase of colonisation. It looked good for its age. A little shabby, but generally cared for. Unlike current construction, it was set onto carbonised earth. It was the cheapest basing for habs back when.

There are local plants and bushes which brightens up the place.

Our target was the square, where the 'old Earth' statues stood, paused mid-fight with an alien creature. Hold the location, drive out the  raiders.

We got the drop on them (seized initiative), and moved up using the cover of the trees and statues whilst Botticelli tried a long shot which missed. Bott got lucky and tried another shot (only 1x2 rolled in reaction roll giving 1st phase actions) but the target was at long range and pretty well hidden in cover.

The raiders moved up took 3 shots which all missed.

Cromwell moved up, shot and missed.

Hari didn't miss and the first went down. Brax and I moved closer to the cover of the statues.

One of the raiders bailed out (1x1 on the panic roll)

Hari and Bott moved up. The enemy also. Bott was the target of two shots, him being in the open. Both hit but bounced off his armour (two 6's in his armour saving throws!). Cromwell was shot at which missed.

Bott got the message and moved into cover (1x2 on the reaction roll giving 1st phase action)

Cromwell was the target again and was lucky it missed. I wasn't and went down.

As Cromwell tells it, he and Hari shot at the same guy, 4 shots all missed. He must have thought it was his lucky day. Until Wolf came round the building and laid him down. Brax took a shot at one and missed.

Another enemy bailed leaving the leader alone. He must be one tough cookie to have stayed!

Bott soon took him down (1x2 on the reaction roll giving 1st phase actions) leaving the crew pretty relieved except for me being down.

The crew held the field and searched for loot while I was attended to.

You get a good view of the Off-World habs in these pictures. Cardstock buildings downloaded from Wargames vault.

The cloth is one shown in an earlier post. Such good choices in, some, US fabric shops.

Turn 2 world events

All in all we were not in a bad position after the first mission. The galactic war was far away and we had no reason, yet, to depart Verulamium any time soon. Let's hope it stays that way a while.

The upkeep for the crew was 1 cred which took us down to 17 creds. The interest on the ship being one cred took that to 21, so I paid another 4 off the debt. The kitty now stood at 13 creds. I hoped for a well paying mission.

Wolf, Botticelli and Cromwell went to train. I was hoping it might help with marksmanship. They had some improvement (+1XP).

Brax, I sent to trade. He wasn't outstanding. Just some scrap he sold for 1 cred. It helps, but, gees!

Hari and I went job hunting. Some corporates offered us a job with 3 creds pay. Unfortunately it had no benefits. Times must be hard for these corporate types.

The job was to secure a location where some raiders had taken up residence.

I allocated equipment ready for the job. Not a lot of difference from the first one. But I'm sure glad we had the shotgun and stims.

I gave Bott the hunting rifle so he could have ranged firing.

I took the shotgun and a stim pack. I gave Wolf a stim pack, too.

Saturday 25 February 2023

Hi!

Just a quick update on what I'm currently painting for Five Parsecs from Home.

The first are Skaven Plague Monks. Stand-ins for the Feral race from Rattus Norvegicus in Ebaracum Galaxy. Upgraded to a formidable force with guns.

Some Necron Warriors for robotic sentries.

A picture to show a Necron Canoptek Wraith. It's bound to be lethal.

Lastly, a Haemotrope Reactor. I have the plasma conduits and this will look great attached to some piping.

The last two, like the plasma pipes and Necron power cells and doors posted in an earlier post, are from the Warhammer Imperial magazines/partworks. I certainly feel they are worth the £8.99 cost.

You will notice the paper buildings in the rear of the pictures. These are downloaded from The Wargames Vault. They are off-world habs. I think they look pretty good.

That is it for now.

Thanks' for dropping by.

Turn 4
